The only thing Mrs. Clinton has going for her, Mr. Trump said, is “the woman’s card.”
“If Hillary Clinton were a man, I don’t think she’d get 5 percent of the vote,” Mr. Trump said in bragging that he’d defeat her easily in November.
Mr. Trump polls poorly among women, including Republican women, and Mrs. Clinton occasionally makes explicit claims based on her sex — for example that being the first female president would make her the ultimate outsider.
But Mr. Trump dismissed such worries, noting that despite Mrs. Clinton’s sex, “the beautiful thing is — women don’t like her.”
In her own acceptance speech earlier, Mrs. Clinton noted Mr. Trump’s frequent use of the term “woman card” and tried to appropriate it.
If backing abortion, family leave and reducing the pay gap, “is playing the woman card, then deal me in,” she said to cheers.
